Successful implementation of a solid modeler is a mixture of the
following key factors:
- user interface and platform
- internal database and its robustness
- industry standards and compatibility with other software
Solid modeling is covered by two major representation schemata:
Constructive Solid Geometry
(CSG) [Hoffmann, 1989, Mortenson, 1997] and boundary
representation (B-rep). In CSG a solid is represented with Boolean
expression of primitive solid objects of simpler structure. B-rep
describes oriented surfaces with its vertices, edges and faces.
Voxelization is another solid description schemata primarily used for
very complex geometry such as medical images.
